The origins: at the lake, an act of love
It was in the 1930s, on the shores of Como Lake. A time when crafts were passed on manually and the most precious teachings passed through the silence of making. Renato Belgeri, a passionate and visionary craftsman, opened a small workshop where he created collections of ties with a care verging on devotion. For him, every knot was a symbolic gesture. Every seam, a signature. The tie became his way of speaking to the world, without raising his voice. Day after day, in the quiet of his workshop, he perfected an art that was made of invisible details and measured gestures, involving soft silks and elegant patterns, precision and soul.
The number of customers increased. The workshop became a small landmark. However, Renato Belgeri was not satisfied with just creating ties: he wanted to build something that would last. So, in the following years, he founded a small company, BRC Renato Belgeri (Belgeri Renato Cravatte), in the nearby village of Rebbio, just a few minutes from the city of Como.
BRC Company: a laboratory of ideas
BRC was more than a business: it was a home for all those who shared a passion for excellence. Every day, under the roof of the workshop, they worked on the creation of their silk ties, taking care of them as sacred objects. Renato personally selected the fabrics in several Como workshops, where in the past, he had learnt how to recognize the best silks.
Success was not long in coming. Renato expanded his range of products, adding silk scarves and foulards and he began several cooperations with international designers, who created for him exclusive designs to develop his accessories.
BRC began to export throughout Europe, America and even Japan. The BRC tie became synonymous with classy and premium craftsmanship. However, another wish was growing in Renato Belgeri: to pass on his know-how and everything that he had built to those who, like him, would understand its deeper value.
1978: the gift of a lifetime
In 1977, Grandpa Renato passed away peacefully, leaving his family with the responsibility and the honour to continue the legacy that he had built with such dedication and foresight. Shortly before he died, he made a precise request: that his grandson, who would arrive shortly afterwards, should bear his name and be educated in work and beauty, so that one day, he would understand his heritage.
That child was born in 1978: Renato Borzatta, son of one of his daughters. For the whole family, and especially for those who had known Grandpa Renato's quiet strength, it was much more than a birth. It was a sign of continuity, a spark of the future, the dream's promise that would not be interrupted.
"RENATO BORZATTA - Italy since 1978" was the brand that the family envisioned for their future. It was not a commercial venture, but an act of love: a seed planted in time, waiting to grow.
Renato Borzatta grew up in this way: among scraps of silk, wooden benches, patiently threaded needles. The workshop was his playground, his grandfather a living figure in the family's daily history, his example a silent compass. He spent every summer there, absorbing every detail like a sponge. He couldn't imagine yet that this world would have become his own.
The end of the 1990s: the passing of the baton
Not many words were needed when the family handed Renato the keys of the workroom. They just told him: "Make sure that everything that comes out of here says who you are".It was then, at the end of the 1990s, that Renato Borzatta began to transform the brand into something new, following his grandfather's vision. He didn't just want to continue the business: he wanted to extend the soul of craftsmanship to new forms, new materials, new horizons.
This is how the first collections of genuine leather Made in Italy handbags were born. A refined debut designed to last. Every bag was cut and sewn by hand, made of Italian chrome and vegetable tanned leather, with premium metal accessories.
